Carl Rogers (Person Centred Approach)

‘We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know’

My Approach

I believe that every person is unique, and so is their journey. That’s why I take an integrative approach, meaning I approach each client in a way that is specific to their individual needs. I draw up my training from different therapeutic methods, so I can support you in exploring your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a way and at a pace that feels right for you. Every client is different and will call upon my skillset in different ways as appropriate to their specific needs.  I am a warm, empathetic and compassionate person, here’s how my approach works:

Person-Centred TherapyA Safe, Non-Judgmental Space
This foundation of how we work together focuses on building a strong therapeutic relationship between us which creates a safe, trusting space for self-exploration, self-acceptance, and personal growth. I provide an empathetic, non-judgmental environment where you feel truly heard, accepted, and understood. The Person Centred approach holds the belief we all have the answers within, and can often involve unravelling conditions life has placed upon us in order to re align with our truest self.

Psychodynamic TherapyUnderstanding the Past to Shape the Future
Our past experiences influence how we think, feel, and behave today. Psychodynamic therapy helps uncover unconscious patterns, unresolved emotions, and past experiences that may be affecting your present. Throughout life we all develop coping mechanisms, some healthy and some unhealthy which we can work together to explore. By bringing awareness to these patterns, you can gain insight and create lasting change.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)Challenging Unhelpful Thoughts
CBT is a structured, practical approach that helps identify and change negative thought patterns. If you struggle with anxiety, low mood, or self-doubt, this method can help you identify and reframe thoughts, manage emotions, and develop healthier coping strategies.

Inner Child WorkHealing from Within
Many of our emotional struggles stem from childhood experiences. Inner Child Work allows us to reconnect with and nurture the parts of ourselves that may feel wounded, unheard, or neglected. By offering compassion to your inner self, rebuilding the relationship within, we can work towards healing and self-acceptance.

MindfulnessA way of being
Mindfulness is the practice of paying deliberate, non-judgmental attention to the present moment. It involves being fully aware of your thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and environment, without trying to change or judge them. By gaining self awareness and practicing mindful awareness this gives us at the power to choose how to respond to life in a healthier way, it also gives us access to inner peace. By building mindful awareness into daily life we can navigate a calmer and more conscious way of living.

Therapeutic Coaching an empowering way to move forward
Therapeutic coaching is a holistic approach that combines techniques from both therapy and coaching to support personal growth, emotional healing, and goal achievement. It helps individuals to create lasting change through a collaborative approach which helps you to work through the root of challenges in order to overcome blocks to change and growth, it is a very empowering approach as it helps you gain self awareness and insight, create direction and then take action which will help you to move forward in a realistic and sustainable way.

Together we create a Solution-focused approach to the work we do together meaning we identify some key areas we will work on allowing us to use our time effectively, this work can evolve during sessions but I find it helps clients identify what they want from the process which helps guide our work in sessions together to achieve that outcome.

Every clients journey is unique, so is shaped around your personal needs, together we will help you gain deeper self-awareness, resilience, and emotional well-being. Whether the journey is healing, self awareness, growth or resilience, I am here to support you on that that path.

Client feedback

  • Female client working on self worth, career and relationships

Working with Laura has been life changing, she helped me see my own worth when I couldn't. She has supported me and inspired me to pursue a career in counselling and to overcome a marriage breakdown and an abusive relationship. I can’t thank her enough. I continue to see her occasionally to maintain my progress, but feel much more able to navigate life.

  • Male client with depression

Laura helped me through a time when I couldn’t see any way forward, I was depressed and suicidal. She sat with me in the darkness with patience and understanding. Together we made a plan to make small steps which have helped me over time to feel better and even take the step to start a relationship. Her skills are really useful as now we are working on career change so its been great to be able to work through lots of areas of my life with one therapist.

  • Couples Client

Laura has been great, she has a really approachable and compassionate style. We felt we could open up honestly with her and its helped us to work through the issues we had and focus back on the important stuff in our relationship. We have overcome the main issues and will sometimes come back for a check in session when things get a bit much. We appreciate having her support when we need it and we have recommended her to friends who are having issues!
